Alkeymia takes a global leap with a green ammonia megaproject in Chile

Santiago de Chile, October 1st, 2024 - The project, named "Hydrus," aims to produce up to 800,000 tons of this green molecule with a 1 GW electrolysis plant. Alkeymia will collaborate with the Chilean company Antuko.

Alkeymia, a Spanish company focused on developing green hydrogen and derivative production projects, is solidifying its position in the green molecule business with its first venture into the international market.

Through the launch of Hydrus, the company is undertaking a large-scale project to produce green ammonia in Chile and establish itself as a global player in this emerging industry. This project, its most ambitious to date, will be located in the Antofagasta region, where it plans to build a facility capable of generating at least 800,000 tons of green ammonia annually.

The complex will feature a Haber-Bosch industrial process, an electrolysis plant of at least 1,000 MW, and will rely exclusively on renewable energy to ensure that all production is entirely green.

Alkeymia will develop the project alongside its partner Antuko, a company with extensive experience in energy project consultancy and development in the country.

The Chilean complex will join six other green hydrogen and derivative facilities that Alkeymia is developing in Spain, with a combined electrolysis capacity exceeding 1 GW.

ABOUT ANTUKO

Antuko is a Chilean company founded in 2012, initially focused on electricity trading activities, including buying and selling electricity through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs). Over time, Antuko expanded its services to include comprehensive consultancy work, focusing on energy price forecasting, as well as the development of storage and hydrogen projects.

Since then, Antuko has expanded operations to Mexico, Colombia, Peru, Spain, and Portugal, supporting developers, generators, independent power producers, and financial institutions. The company provides end-to-end support, from project conception to financing, commercial operations, energy sales strategy design, risk analysis, and mergers and acquisitions services in renewable asset transactions.

Thanks to this comprehensive approach, Antuko has developed in-depth knowledge of the entire electricity generation value chain, positioning itself as a leader in the sector.

ABOUT ALKEYMIA

Alkeymia is a 100% Spanish-owned company specializing in the development, construction, and operation of green molecule production plants through green hydrogen synthesis using water electrolysis. The company harnesses electricity from its wind and photovoltaic projects to produce green hydrogen, which it uses as a vector for producing sustainable industrial derivatives like green methanol and ammonia, among others.

Currently, the company has a portfolio of over 1,000 MW of advanced electrolysis capacity under development to decarbonize industry through the sale of sustainable derivatives to consuming industries.
